Rumor: Have 'X-Men: Dark Phoenix' & 'The New Mutants' Been Cancelled?

(Cosmic Book News) According to the rumor, the Disney deal is basically already done and Disney execs have an active hand in what has been going in at Fox, and that people at both companies want a clean slate, so New Mutants and X-Men: Dark Phoenix won’t be released. It’s further said that both movies are atrocious (worse than Fantastic Four) with a bad storyline and acting, and that the cancellation announcement will come after this Friday’s shareholders vote.

Disclaimer: this rumor needs to be taken with a huge grain of salt. It was leaked by an alleged former Fox employee going by the name “SlugZilla” who had a few different bits of “information”, with the most important takeaways being this:

1. Regarding ‘The New Mutants': “There were some of us nobody’s who were actively involved in trying to warn both Fox & Boone that they were going in the wrong direction with the movie, but we were mostly ignored. Some of us were punished, some even fired for expressing our concerns.” The movie has been pushed back seemingly a thousand times, so it would make sense. Ana Taylor-Joy (Split), Maisie Williams (Game of Thrones), Alice Braga (I Am Legend), Antonio Banderas (The Mask Of Zorro), and Charlie Heaton (Stranger Things) are all set to star in the horror-themed movie.

2. ‘Gambit’ with Channing Tatum isn’t happening. This really never was happening in the first place, so if any of this is true, I’d believe this the easiest. It’s a recurring joke on LCB at this point how Gambit stinks (except for in video games and the animated series) and nobody wants this except Tatum (Two blogs today for our beefy boy) and maybe Taylor Kitsch so that everyone forgets the abysmal ‘X-Men Origins: Wolverine’.

3. The X-Force movie might be renamed ‘Deadpool 3: X-Force’, and possibly get some of New Mutant’s characters as well as X-23 from ‘Logan’. This is actually awesome, because the X-Force scene was one of the funnier parts in ‘Deadpool 2′, and X-23 was fucking AWESOME in the best X-Men movie made so far.

4. Regarding ‘X-Men: Dark Phoenix': “According to my friend New Mutants & Dark Phoenix are both doa. Neither will see theatrical release. They have daily access to some Fox execs, I trust this person and it fits with everything else I’ve been hearing, so I’m confident in saying that both movies are effectively cancelled. She said Disney wants a clean slate & that the Mouse has told the Fox to shelve all planned releases. They said its a possibility that these two movies could see release on some streaming/television/Bluray platform years from now, but only after Disney has fully developed its own X-Men Universe.” This would be huge, and in my opinion a good idea. If they suck, you absolutely can’t roll them out at this post-acquisition to try and merge them with the existing MCU. Let Micky work his magic on the universe and there could be infinite possibilities for crossovers. The movie is set to star Sophie Turner (Game of Thrones) as well as the recurring cast of James McAvoy, Jennifer Lawrence, Tye Sheridan, Michael Fassbender, Evan Peters, Nicholas Hoult, and a huge addition in Jessica Chastain.

x-men-dark-phoenix-fenix-oscura-posterAgain, it’s just a rumor at this point, but one that could explain the ridiculous delays in production for both movies.

ICYMI we had Feits on to talk about ‘Mama Mia: Here We Go Again’ and ‘The Equalizer 2′ and it was an absolute blast. Also, don’t forget to vote in my totally normal 51 week study on the best movies for each state. Polls close Sunday!
