Gary Bettman Is Making An Announcement On Sports Betting On Monday. What Could It Possibly Be?

NHL: MAY 28 Stanley Cup Final Game 1 - Capitals at Golden Knights

My guess is that it’s going to be something like this;

“Just keep hammering Toronto overs. I know they haven’t been scoring as much over the last few weeks or so but they’re just not getting any puck luck right now. If you want to get rich, Toronto overs are the way to go” – Gary Bettman.

Or maybe something like this–

“The easiest money right now is to take whoever is playing against the Flyers to score first. You can retire on that prop bet alone. The Flyers are a fucking joke, so why not make some coin off their dumbassery?” – Gary Bettman

Or perhaps Gary Bettman recently had a bad beat and he’s ready to change some rules real quick….

“Listen. From this point moving forward, teams are no longer allowed to pull their goalie with over 2 minutes left to play in regulation. I’m fucking sick and tired of the over still hitting because a team was down 4-1 with 3:20 left in the game and decided to get cute and pull their goalie, now it’s 5-1 for no goddamn reason. That should be a win for the under. It’s thievery when you actually think about it.” – Gary Bettman

At the very least, maybe he’ll explain the situation in New Jersey where betting odds will be displayed on the scoreboard during the game. There’s definitely some fuckery that could be afoot there with that situation. I mean imagine playing a game in New Jersey, seeing the line on the game right there on the scoreboard while you’re playing, and all of a sudden you’re on the bench screaming to your teammates to get the win but not to win by too much. You throw a little coin on the under and New Jersey +1.5. You’ll have guess missing empty netters on purpose just to cash out. It’s a very real scenario so maybe Bettman will try to put those worries to rest.

Whatever it is, I just hope the announcement doesn’t suck ass and have Bettman coming in as a wet blanket. The NHL needs to embrace gambling right now. The more involved they get with it, the more intriguing the league gets to people who aren’t necessarily already big hockey fans. You want the league to grow and to start closing the gap a little between the other 3 major leagues? Go heavy on the gambling. But somehow I see Gary fucking this one up.

UPDATE: Turns out it’s #ActuallyGood news. Should be big.
