Chasing The Dream: WWE with Pat McAfee

My story is going to be a fantastic one. Regardless of how this all works out, it’s gonna be a great tale. They’ll either say “A dumbass left the NFL at the top of his game, to join a blogging company, chased his dreams, failed completely, now he’s high on a beach”.. or they’ll say “A guy played in the NFL to get rich, took care of his family, and then said “fuck you” to the entire system.. chased every single dream he ever had, now he’s wealthy; and high on a beach”.. Either way it should be entertaining. Barstool has given me an incredible platform to pursue my dreams of chatting into a microphone with my boys and create a pretty comical podcast. It’s been fun to build the show and find our flow.

Many of you know I’ve made hilarious financial decisions in the past. I wasn’t supposed to have money. I buy dumb shit. I’m that guy. I bought a goat from Australia one night while pretty intoxicated because I wanted to have a pet named Adam Vinatieri. Apparently, in my drunken state of mind, an Australian goat was the only way to go. The goat was a couple hundred dollars.. Shipping a live animal from “Down Under”, a little bit more than 7000 American dollars. You could jot that type of thought process down as “poor”, but nonetheless you get the point. 5 years ago, I walked out to my mail box one morning and a man with a great southern accent pulled up in an 18 wheeler.. He leaned out the window of his truck and asked “Where do you want me to put this thing? I’ve never delivered one to a home residence before.”.. “What is it?” I responded.. “A professional rassling ring” he said.. “I think you’re at the wrong address buddy”.. “Are you Pat “Motherfucking” McAfee?”… “I’m sorry sir, obviously blacked out me found out he could buy a wrestling ring on the internet, go ahead and put it in the barn I guess.” It’s been in there ever since. Blacked out me on that night reminded sober adult me, that ever since I was a child I wanted to be a professional wrestler.

Now that I’m retired, it’s time to fulfill that dream. To chase that passion and see what the fuck happens. I was a punter in the NFL, not a glorified position by any means. I’m going to have to earn my spot in a wrestling organization, not just get it handed to me like Deangelo Williams. I want to be legit. I want to be great. So, I hired a wrestling legend named Rip Rogers to train me, built the ring, and have been working with a few fine gentlemen (Von Lilas, Randy, & Tanner) for the past couple weeks trying to see if young me, who knew I was put on this earth to be a wrestler was right or not. Here’s the first episode of “Chasing the dream: WWE”. In this series you’ll get a chance to watch me from literally day 1, my first “roll”, until whatever the hell happens with all this. I’m loving it and I hope you do too. Cheers.
