Hours After Beating Chris Sale, The Yankees Take Down Dylan Bundy In Baltimore

Screenshot (98)

Today was bullshit from the start. After beating Chris Sale on Sunday Night Baseball in the Bronx, the Yankees packed up their bags and headed to Baltimore for a three game set. For whatever stupid scheduling reason, the game had to be played during the day at 2:00. It was just beyond stupid they couldn’t have moved the game to night, but anyways here we were with Mongtomery on the bump against Orioles ace Dylan Bundy. Things got off to a shaky start with Tim Beckham homering to deep right in the O’s first at bat of the game.

The following inning Chris Davis barely cleared the fence for a two run homer himself, giving the O’s a 3-0 lead. At that point it felt like a wash of a game, but Montgomery zeroed in and lasted 4 2/3 innings of two earned run ball to keep the Yankees in the game. By doing just that, it allowed the bats to get cookin’ and jump on Dylan Bundy.

This was Didi’s 20th homer of the season, giving him back to back 20 homer seasons as the Yankees shortstop, something that has never happened in their history. Didi and Jeter are now the only two Yankees shortstops to have multiple 20 homer seasons in club history. I say it a lot, but Didi is one of the more underrated players in all of baseball. There are only a handful of shortstops in the game that I’d take over him. Xander Bogaerts is not one of them.

A few innings later Starlin Castro put New York on top for good with a two run blast to left.

Since returning from the DL, Castro is hitting .358 (14 for 39) with nine RBIs in nine starts. His addition along with Holliday’s make this lineup complete and very scary.

From there on out it was time for the bullpen to put this ballgame in cruise control and Chad Green did just that going two and a third, retiring all seven guys he faced, striking out four of them. The outing lowered his stellar ERA to 1.97, putting him at 90 strikeouts in just 59.1 IP (13.7 Ks/9). He’s been stupid good this year, and has quickly become one of the more dominant relievers in all of baseball.

David Robertson came in for the 8th and walked the first two batters before retiring the next three in order to escape any damage. Dellin came in the 9th and shut the door, although he did serve up a two homer to Wellington Castillo. The Yankees are getting hot at just the right time, as they begin a crucial nine game road trip, which started today Tomorrow night CC takes the ball against Jeremy Hellickson and the Yanks should be able to jump all over that bum right out of the gate. Things are lookin up folks.
