Now That The NHL Is Coming To Seattle, Can We PLEASE Bring Back The Sonics

Seattle SuperSonics v Golden State Warriors

If you’re a hockey guy and you haven’t done it yet, go read Grinnell’s breakdown of Seattle getting an NHL team. Seeing as how I am not a hockey guy, I care about this news simply from the basketball side of things. I’ve written about it time, and time, and time again and my stance has not changed. The NBA needs to finally bite the bullet and bring the fine people of Seattle a basketball team. We don’t need to rehash how everything went down with their move to OKC and how they couldn’t get a new arena and all that. But now the arena is being updated and with an NHL team in the mix it’s time to come back.

I get it, the NBA probably isn’t going to expand because they would need 2 more teams, and I don’t think we are even close to that happening. But you can’t sit here and tell me there aren’t teams out there that couldn’t be relocated. What’s going on in Atlanta? Would anyone actually miss the Hawks? Figuring out who the team would be for relocation can be someone else’s problem, I’m just going to continue to stomp my feet on the internet and continue to campaign for it. I know people say the NBA didn’t work in Seattle, but that’s not true. They got boned by a shady owner. To think the Sonics (yes, if this happens they have to be renamed the Sonics) wouldn’t sell out each and every game no matter how much they stunk would be crazy. Basketball CAN work in that region, just look at the Blazers. I don’t know where this narrative came from that people in Seattle couldn’t support a team but I’ve seen it be thrown out there.

You hear rumors all the time about how Adam Silver eventually wants a team in Vegas and all this bullshit, and frankly I would be pretty mad if Vegas gets a team before Seattle. The reality of this eventually happening is still the very definition of a long shot, but with a new arena and other big four sports coming to the area, I just hope we see it again in my lifetime. If you weren’t a big fan of the Sonics growing up no matter where you lived, you had a big dump in your pants. They were electric
