Movie Trailer Roundup

Previews

Lets some brand spankin’ new movie trailers take you into the weekend.

1. Peppermint

This looks pretty badass. Jennifer Gardner playing lady Punisher out for blood against the cartel is not something I would label “Peppermint”, but I guess that’s the point. It’s from the same director as Taken, which is good, and co-stars Tyson Ritter (The All American Rejects) and Method Man, which is weird. I pretty much always stan vigilante movies though, and having a devastated mother as the lead for one should be a fresher take on the concept.

2. Damsel

Honestly, I really don’t know what to think of this. It seems pleasant and folksy, but I’m not sure if I trust anyone involved to make a half decent movie. The Zellner brothers are directing, and they’re most famous for, well, nothing. Robert Pattinson is sort of a mixed bag, and Mia Wasikowska who is basically only known for the just ok Alice in Wonderland. The concept itself seems relatively funny. A rich boy pioneer risking it all on a girl that gave him no signals, including buying Little Sebastian and lugging him halfway across the country. I’m still 1000x more excited for “The Sisters Brothers” to be honest.

3. Wildlife

Paul Dano is a depressing ass dude. Pretty damn good actor, but his roles just make me sad like “There Will Be Blood”, “Little Miss Sunshine”, “12 Years a Slave”. This is his directorial debut and it looks true to form with what he’s good at. He co-wrote this with Zoe Kazan who was great in “The Big Sick”, but this seems a little more like another movie she was in which you might remember, “Revolutionary Road”. In fact, it looks almost exactly like that. I love Jake G and Carey Mulligan absolutely killed it in “Mudbound”. This should be a pretty strong performance driven piece that will make you feel very sad. Also, can I get a hell yea for Bill Camp getting more work??? He was great as the detective in “The Night Of”.

4. A Simple Favor

I’ll be honest I have no clue what the barreling fuck is supposed to be going on in this movie. Some sort of who done it type mystery thriller offshoot of clue? Weird. But cool enough stars in Kendrick/Lively and very solid supporting cast in Rupert Friend (Quinn from Homeland) and Linda Cardellini (My one true love). Paul Feig has had some directorial missteps recently (Ghostbusters) but his overall resume is strong as hell. Also, his next movie after this is going to be “Play-Doh”. A movie about Play-Doh. Not really sure what the fuck is going on there.

SECOND TRAILERS

1. Night School

I’m still recovering from severe Kevin Hart fatigue to be totally honest. There was a 2-3 year stretch where it felt like he was in every comedy blockbuster being released and he was playing basically the same character in every one, sort of like Will Ferrell. If the comedy in the movie is anything like the trailer, this isn’t going to be my cup of tea. I absolutely love Tiffany Haddish and think she basically made “Girls Trip”, so I think she can do better than being stuck co-starring with Hart or Tracey Morgan (If I have to see one more trailer for “The last O.G.” before a movie I’ll pluck out my eyes). Sort of a funky supporting cast as well. Gail the snail from “It’s Always Sunny”, Jean-Ralphio from “Parks and Rec” (btw did you know that Mona Lisa (Jenny Slate) dated Chris Evans for a pretty damn long time???), Jay from “The 40 Year Old Virgin”, Keith David from Everything (RAMIREZ! GET TO THE BURGER TOWN), Ned from “Spiderman: Homecoming”,  Rob Riggle POW and Taran Killam from, well, the disappointing cast of SNL. I have low expectations,  but would love to be impressed.

That’s all folks. Go watch some movies this weekend and ignore your friends and family. “Solo: A Star Wars Story” will never leave you on read. Don’t forget to subscribe to Lights, Camera, Pod, follow us on Twitter, follow us on Instagram and join in on the conversation on our Reddit.
