Roy Williams Claims He's Dumbfounded By The College Basketball Corruption Scandal

So obviously the biggest story in college hoops right now is the corruption scandal. I hate it. I really wish that wasn’t the case because I prefer to write more about the game than anything else. But, here we are with another story because one of the biggest names in coaching history is talking about it and how he’s dumbfounded about the whole situation.

Now, the other thing that’s important here is Roy said ‘In 30 years as a head coach I have never had anyone ask me for money. I have never asked any shoe company to recruit for me. I have never asked anyone other than the family what is most important to you.’

I don’t doubt that. Roy has been at Kansas and UNC and hasn’t had to talk to a shoe company or someone else about paying players. As we’ve seen with the trial that’s typically the case when it comes to head coaches. So far we’ve heard all about assistant coaches discussing money because head coaches delegate it that way to try and stay out of trouble. Now, this isn’t saying Roy ever did that, just how it’s been so far in the trials.

Now, the thing is I don’t think anyone is dumbfounded by this. You can be surprised by the amount of money or how widespread it is to a degree, but you can’t be dumbfounded by this. I know it’s all part of Roy’s aww shucks mentality too, but it’s also a bit of a stretch to say you had no idea this was ever going on.
