James Gunn Fired As The Director Of 'Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 3'

(Screenrant) “Disney and Marvel Studios have officially cut ties with Guardians of the Galaxy film series writer and director James Gunn. The decision was made shortly after older tweets from the filmmaker’s now-deleted Twitter account (where he jokes about topics like pedophilia and rape) were brought back to light.

Walt Disney Studios chairman Alan Horn has confirmed the decision in an official statement. Gunn posted his own statement (of sorts) to his Twitter account prior to deleting it, writing ‘Many people who have followed my career know when I started, I viewed myself as a provocateur, making movies and telling jokes that were outrageous and taboo. As I have discussed publicly many times, as I’ve developed as a person, so has my work and my humor.'”

This sucks for the much anticipated third installment of the Guardians movies, but Gunn’s tweets were indefensible. It’s crazy how highly paid celebrities, athletes, etc. somehow don’t have SOMEONE on their payroll who has the wherewithal to scrub their social media on a reoccurring basis.

I’m curious what this means for Vol. 3, because his replacement is going to have to maintain the very specific style of the previous movies. It would probably never happen, but if I would personally choose Taika Waititi. ‘Thor:Ragnarok’ was an absolute joy and the only movie even close to as fun as the original ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ movie. Would that ever happen? Probably not. But a man can dream.
