I'm Rooting For 16 Seed UMBC To #ShockTheWorld

Rough March Madness upcoming for a Maryland fan. Couldn’t sniff the tournament, and didn’t even get an NIT bid. Not that I would have watched a second of the NIT anyway, but c’mon, at least send an invite! But that’s how far Maryland basketball has fallen as a program.

Meanwhile, UVA is the overall number 1 seed. Not Kentucky, not Kansas, not Duke, not UNC… but The University of Virginia. It’s unbelievable. I never wanted to live in a time when UVA basketball was running circles around the Terps, but alas, here we are and it stinks, stinks, stinks. It’s a tough pill to swallow, for sure.

And then the unimaginable happened. Freaking UMBC won the American East and secured their spot in the Big Dance. I’m halfway through this blog and I feel like I’m taking crazy pills, writing about #1 Seed UVA and UMBC in the tournament but Maryland not. UMBC is most known for being a commuter school where I’m pretty sure the only major available are Computer Science and IT. Everyone just graduates and becomes “Ned in IT” or some sort of programmer and makes 6 figures a year from their first day on the job. But now, you can add “big time basketball school” to their resumes.

The Retrievers got the matchup of a lifetime- the 16 seed to play the Cavaliers. The annoying, boring, Cavaliers. Nobody likes watching UVA play. Nobody wants to see them win. Even people who go to Virginia don’t like watching Virginia. So I’m all in on UMBC. We all should be all in on UMBC. A 16 has to beat a 1 eventually…why not now? Why not UMBC? It’d be like George Mason making the Final Four, times a million. The little 16 seed that could. Time to #ShockTheWorld
