Rest In Peace Flaco The Owl, A True New York City Icon

Make fun of me all you want. I refuse to be on the wrong side of history when it comes to mourning Flaco the Owl, a New York City legend and beloved member of the community.

Our sweet prince Flaco died tragically on Friday night after flying into the side of a building on West 86th street. He was taken to an animal hospital right away, where unfortunately they weren't able to save him. People think he may have been sick or something - he hadn't been hooting, and he's never hurt himself in this way before. For those who don't know - Flaco was a Eurasian Eagle Owl who escaped from the zoo a little over a year ago, and has been living on the Upper West Side/Central Park ever since. He moved to the Lower East Side for a little while, but realized that the UWS reigns supreme, obviously. He has been a ray of sunshine for New Yorkers everywhere, always hoping to be the lucky ones to see him land on their windowsill.

Ignore the replies on that video from heartless, ignorant fools who have clearly never loved anything in their lives. Today, we mourn Flaco. We let the tears fall as we remember his most majestic moments, and we pray he's resting in peace. I will be stopping by the memorial in Central Park (the west side of East Drive, the Oak tree he loved) at some point this weekend to pay my respects.
