Kentucky Is Charging Teams In Its Regional $185 A Night For Players To Stay In Dorm Rooms Because All The Hotels In Lexington Are Booked For A Country Music Festival

Congratulations to West Virginia, Indiana and Ball State on great baseball seasons that earned them invitations to the NCAA Tournament. As a reward for your outstanding work, you have earned the right to spend the week in University of Kentucky dorm rooms for the low price of $185 a night!

I don't recall ever seeing anything like this and I honestly can't believe Kentucky was allowed to host with the knowledge this was going on. The NCAA doesn't just necessarily pick the 16 best teams to host Regionals; teams with a realistic chance of hosting have to submit bids and show that their stadium can accommodate the event, there are plenty of hotels, etc. for this very reason. And somehow Kentucky is now making more money than it would have been otherwise by sticking opposing players in dorm rooms.

And Kentucky was a deserving host and the hotel thing wasn't necessarily their fault, so I get the dorm rooms are making the best of a bad situation. But how the hell are they allowed to make $185 a pop off this? That's money that was otherwise going to Marriott or Hilton and now UK gets it for treating other student-athletes like they're coming for orientation?

The Wildcat players are going to be snuggled in bed in their nice off-campus apartments while their opponents are on Twin XL bunk beds with four guys sharing a bathroom. This is not gambling advice, but I will be taking UK to win this regional at +110.
