TV Legend Ed Asner Has Passed away

"Ed Asner, who cornered the market on gruff guys with hearts of gold on “The Mary Tyler Moore Show,” “Lou Grant,” and the Disney/Pixar animated feature “Up,” has died at the age of 91. He passed away peacefully on Sunday morning, as a representative confirmed to IndieWire."

I honestly love that opening line, because that is exactly what Ed Asner was for me. The gruff exterior with a warm cuddly inside. For people from my parent's generation, they mostly knew him as Lou from the incredible Mary Tyler Moore show. His filmography has taken him from playing roles opposite John Wayne in El Dorado to opposite Will Ferrell in Elf. He was the most honored actor in Emmy history and a constant champion of non-profits a number of different causes. My thoughts go out to his family and friends.

He was also obviously the star of UP, and his character was the centerpiece of maybe the saddest few minutes in Disney movie history.
